UNICEF Germany loses seal of approval

After weeks of turmoil at UNICEF Germany, the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI), has said it will not recommend donations to UNICEF because of the ongoing problems at the charity and withdraws its seal of approval. The seal is meant “to advance trust and achieve greater cooperativeness” toward charitable organisations.

The turmoil started when resigning chairwoman, Heide Simonis, exposed serious fund mismanagement which involved commissions being paid to expensive fund-raising consultants and about the secrecy surrounding the payments.

The scandal has received wide press coverage. Some German celebrities have already withdrawn their support and many donors have cancelled their regular donations.

I’m wondering whether this could have an effect on other charities, particularly in Germany.
